GENERATIVE ENGINE OPTIMIZATION: STAY VISIBLE AS SEARCH EVOLVES

Visibility isn’t just a list of blue links anymore.

Rankings still matter, but they’re not the whole picture. GEO extends your search visibility into AI-generated answers so you can reach audiences earlier in their decision process.

Adapt to Changing Behavior

Traffic drops don’t mean demand is gone. People are seeking answers elsewhere. Quality content and relevant links get your brand cited and named where discovery happens now.

Shape Decisions Early On

AI overviews and generative engines are often the first touchpoint for searchers. If your brand gets mentioned there, you influence decisions before buyers ever reach a website.

Earn Trust With Every Answer

Citations and mentions build credibility before a click happens. When people recognize your brand from answers they trust, they show up ready to act.

What Is Generative Engine Optimization?

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of making your brand the source AI systems cite when they answer questions in your category. Traditional search engine optimization (SEO) earns a ranking and a click. GEO earns a mention inside the answer itself. When a prospect asks ChatGPT which vendors to shortlist and your name comes back, that’s GEO working.

GEO is focused on entities. AI systems don’t think in pages or keywords. They identify the entities in a question, then build an answer from the entities, attributes, and relationships they’ve indexed. Your brand is an entity. So is each service you sell, each capability you’re known for, each location you serve, and each expert on your team. A page is how you declare those things in a form a retrieval system can reuse.

You’ll also see GEO called answer engine optimization (AEO), AI search optimization, or LLM optimization. The terms describe the same work: structuring content so it can be retrieved and extracted, building entity signals so AI systems can resolve who you are, and earning the third-party authority that makes a system willing to quote you.

Platform coverage

AI Isn't One Platform, and One Playbook Won't Cover It

Most of what earns a citation helps on every platform. Where they differ is in what they cite and how often they search live, so treating them as interchangeable produces a strategy that's thin in every direction.

For most businesses Google comes first, and that means traditional results, AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Gemini. Your second and third platform depend on who you sell to. We pick them from where your buyers already read and ask. Published user counts are no help here, since every platform reports them differently.

Google: AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Gemini

Almost six in 10 buyers run a Google search right after an AI tool recommends something, so Google is where the other platforms' answers get checked. We work all three Google surfaces and give AI Mode the priority, because it names brands about twice as often as AI Overviews do.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT searches live for more than 95% of answers. What it says about you comes from pages it retrieved a moment earlier. Citation work and new third-party coverage show up here faster than on any other platform. We test the prompts your buyers use and find the questions your competitors are winning.

Claude

Claude leans on its training data more than most, searching live for roughly a third of answers. Changes take longer to land here, since training data refreshes on its own schedule. It also sends about two-thirds of its citations to brand-owned pages rather than to forums. Clear, plain-language pages and demonstrated expertise matter more here than anywhere else.

Perplexity

Perplexity shows its sources on every answer. You can see which pages it pulled from and which competitors it favors on the queries you care about. It's also the least reliable at recognizing brands. In our Q2 testing it described brands correctly 67.7% of the time overall, and only 47% of the time in software as a service (SaaS). Every other major platform cleared 93%. Entity clarity is the first fix here.

Copilot

Copilot answers inside the tools people already work in, which pushes the questions toward the practical and the in-workflow. It leans on LinkedIn and business-to-business trade publications. Bing-side technical health and indexation matter here as much as Google's.

What's Shared Across All of Them

Every platform rewards the same three things: entity clarity, so a model knows which company you are and doesn't hedge toward a competitor it's more certain about; retrievable structure; and earned third-party coverage. One technical requirement comes before all three. If your pages are assembled in the browser, most AI crawlers can't read them at all. Gemini is the exception, because it runs on Google's crawling infrastructure.

Our Clients' GEO Results

Victorious' Integrated SEO + GEO Strategy

We don't treat GEO as a separate strategy from SEO, but as an extension of it. Both rely on the same signals like clear structure, credible content, and technical accessibility. The difference is where the answer shows up. Our process builds one connected system that drives visibility across search engines and AI platforms at the same time.

Audit & Strategy

We start by investigating where you stand in both traditional search and AI-driven results so every decision that follows is grounded in data.

Technical Optimization

If search engines and AI systems can't access your site, nothing else matters. We make sure the technical foundation is solid before building on top of it.

Query & Intent Research

We identify the queries your audience uses, across both search engines and AI assistants. Then we map the intent of those queries to specific points in the customer journey.

We’ve been working with Victorious SEO for about 18 months and have been impressed with both the team and the results. They take a very thoughtful, detailed approach to SEO and really focus on understanding your specific goals rather than applying a one-size-fits-all strategy. They’ve become a valuable resource for our business, and we’ve been very happy with the partnership. I would absolutely recommend Victorious to anyone looking for a results-driven SEO partner.

FAQs

Generative Engine Optimization Services FAQ

What are generative engine optimization services?

Generative engine optimization services optimize your site to increase the likelihood of appearing in AI answers in your category. In practice that means auditing where you stand today, researching the questions your buyers actually ask, optimizing content so a system can extract it, implementing the structured data that tells a system what your content means, and clearing the technical barriers that stop AI crawlers reaching you.

Is GEO the same thing as AEO?

Yes, GEO and AEO are the same work. Most people use answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization synonymously, and we treat them that way too. Both are an extension of search engine optimization. The same signals carry both: clear structure, credible content, and technical accessibility. What changes is where the answer shows up.

Will GEO work hurt our existing SEO?

No, GEO work won't hurt your existing SEO, and in most cases it strengthens it. Google's own guidance and its recent algorithm updates favor content that's helpful and authoritative, which is what this work produces. Reformatting into question and answer pairs and short summaries improves the reading experience alongside retrievability. Your brand voice and the depth of your content stay intact.

Do we need new content, or can you work with what we have?

We can usually work with the content you already have. Restructuring paragraphs, adding summaries, and splitting articles that try to answer too much at once will get you further than a content order will. We recommend new content where there's an important question your site doesn't cover and the case for the return is clear.

How long does generative engine optimization take to show results?

Our generative engine optimization strategies run in 90-day sprints. The first full read comes at the end of the first sprint, with reporting monthly in between. Visibility tends to move before traffic or conversions do.

What do generative engine optimization services cost?

Generative engine optimization services are priced against your site size, how competitive your category is, and how much of the foundation is already in place. We scope after the audit, so the number reflects the work you actually need.

How do we choose between generative engine optimization companies?

Choose a generative engine optimization company by what it can show you and how it treats the work. Ask what they report on monthly and whether they can show you a real client reporting view instead of a screenshot of a chatbot answering one question. And ask whether they treat AI search as a separate program or as an extension of the search work you're already paying for, because running it separately means paying twice for one set of improvements.
