What It Takes To Win a Best of Clutch Award

Not all awards are created equal. Here’s what it took to be crowned a Best of Clutch winner.

Part 1: The Vote

In order to be in the running, Victorious had to submit a client case study. We decided to share a law firm case study that featured a two-year campaign. While short-term wins are often more straightforward to spotlight, we opted to share a two-year campaign to demonstrate long-term, sustainable growth and better illustrate our services’ effectiveness.

Clutch shared our case study… and those of a couple of hundred of our competitors and asked the public to vote for the most impressive ones.  

Part 2: The Panel

Once the polls closed, a panel of industry experts, including Amanda Natividad, VP of Marketing at SparkToro, Peep Laja, CEO of Wynter, Seth Besmertnik, CEO of Conductor, and Amanda Baum, SVP of Product at Clutch, poured over the submitted case studies to pinpoint which ones stood out.

To stand out, our case study needed to showcase the strategies we used to effectively help our client surpass their goals. Our winner badge makes it clear that it did just that.

Case Study: How SEO Helped a Law Firm Cut PPC & Scale Nationally

Our client is a law firm that helps consumers affected by defective or underperforming products. After working with a different agency for both SEO and PPC for nine years and investing over $1 million in PPC ads annually, they wanted to reduce PPC spend and increase SEO conversions.

Not only did Victorious help this law firm dramatically decrease PPC spending, but our custom SEO, content, and web services were such a successful lead driver in the first year that they targeted several states for expansion the following year.

Year One: Reducing PPC Spend

After spending over a million dollars annually on PPC ads with an agency that told them SEO conversions were impossible, our client was ready for a new approach. They tasked us with reducing their PPC spend and increasing SEO conversions. 

Knowing that legal SEO is extremely competitive, we started with an industry analysis to create a data-driven strategy. We determined that to reach the target audience while reducing PPC spend, we needed to focus on high-conversion keywords associated with specific product issues or state statutes. We hypothesized that doing so would allow us to generate leads related to the particular product problems the firm was interested in pursuing in court.

Our team built out a robust keyword and content strategy, noting which pages should be prioritized, how many backlinks we should establish, and what type of content we needed to optimize, update, or create.

Within the first 6 months of our campaign, the law firm was able to pause its PPC ads. We averaged 50% more leads a day than our initial goal.


Year Two: Scaling Into New Markets

With such great growth in their first year and with the budget saved by replacing PPC campaigns with SEO, our client was ready to scale, intending to expand their presence to additional states via organic search.

We created 18 new location pages to help them capture market share in additional states. We expanded our off-page SEO efforts to build links and citations to additional location pages and refreshed their keyword strategy regularly to build on existing momentum.

These efforts led to a 281.89% increase in sessions and a 56% boost in high-quality leads. Thanks to their campaign’s strong performance, our client has successfully scaled their operations, hiring more staff and providing legal assistance in 18 more states.

This SEO campaign highlights SEO’s invaluable role in generating prequalified leads to support business growth. We focused on the SEO metrics most important to our customer — traffic and lead generation — and directly tied results to their business goals.
